Go ? Series
I was in Chengdu, China, from April 20-24, 2017. I was asked to help promote Chengdu's tourism, creativity and cultural industries to the world under the giant panda brand. I wrote two songs ("Giant Panda Lullaby" for the pandas, and "Go Chengdu" for giant panda lovers) and performed them in a panda forum's opening session.
When the giant panda lovers made a study tour to the Chengdu Panda Base, we happily sang the Mandarin verse of "Go Chengdu" a couple of times:
"Go Chengdu! See giant pandas!
Sights and sounds are cool, in modern China!"
The feeling of togetherness made us feel good. I was particularly pleased as my objective in songwriting and performing was achieved!
At the Panda Base, I had expected that I could have close encounters with baby giant pandas. Having learned that the youngest panda there was already eight months old, I realized that we should have gone to the Base in Winter or early Spring. It also dawned on me that the most adored and protected rare animals did not breed like humans!
Anyhow, I enjoyed filming from a distance especially the 50Kg baby giant panda resting at a treetop. When I returned to Hong Kong, I quickly recorded a refined sound track of "Go Chengdu", edited the Chengdu video clips and published the thematic music video. The overwhelming support and encouragement I got from different quarters via Chengdu have also inspired me to develop a "Go ? Series"!
